Chief Operating Officer

Job Description

Title: Chief Operating Officer
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Also Accountable to: President
Nature of Appointment: Probation for six (6) months, permanent employment after successful completion of probationary period
Objective:

Provide strategic leadership, direction, and oversight of all field operations across SEDPI Group of Social Enterprises (GSE). Ensure organizational goals are translated into effective operational execution by leading Operations Managers, strengthening management systems, developing future leaders, and continuously improving operational performance, portfolio quality, financial sustainability, and member service.

Key Functions and Responsibilities

Strategic Operations Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and monitor the organization’s operational strategies and annual operational plans
  • Align field operations with SEDPI GSE’s Vision, Mission, Values, and strategic priorities
  • Recommend improvements to organizational structure, operational systems, and business processes

Operations Oversight

  • Supervise Operations Managers in achieving operational excellence across all assigned operational clusters
  • Monitor organization-wide operational performance and ensure achievement of growth, productivity, portfolio quality, and financial sustainability targets
  • Ensure consistent implementation of organizational policies and management decisions across all operational units

Organizational Performance Management

  • Review organization-wide operational dashboards, reports, and performance indicators
  • Approve operational recovery plans for high-risk branches and areas
  • Lead strategic interventions for operational risks, fraud cases, and critical organizational issues

Leadership Development

  • Coach, mentor, and develop Operations Managers
  • Establish succession plans for key operational leadership positions
  • Identify and develop future organizational leaders
  • Promote a coaching culture throughout the Operations Unit

Organizational Development

  • Lead operational process improvements, innovation initiatives, and digital transformation projects
  • Review and recommend improvements to policies, systems, organizational structure, and operational standards
  • Champion continuous improvement throughout field operations

Governance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and internal controls
  • Review Internal Audit findings and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions
  • Strengthen operational risk management systems across the organization

Executive Coordination

  • Coordinate closely with Finance, Human Resource, Internal Audit, IT and MIS, Administration and Compliance, and other support units in implementing organizational initiatives
  • Serve as the principal operational adviser to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

External Relations

  • Represent SEDPI GSE before partners, regulators, government agencies, and other stakeholders on operational matters
  • Build strategic partnerships that strengthen organizational operations and sustainability

Organizational Culture

  • Promote and model SEDPI’s Vision, Mission, Values, and leadership principles
  • Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, innovation, collaboration, and excellent member service throughout the Operations Unit

Other Duties

  • Perform other related tasks/functions as may be assigned by the supervisor/s

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, Economics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • At least five (8) years of progressively responsible experience in development finance, banking, financial services, or multi-site operations management
  • At least three (5) years of experience supervising managers or multiple operational units
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, organizational development, operational excellence, and executive leadership
  • Strong leadership, coaching, strategic thinking, and organizational development skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office, Google Workspace, Management Information Systems (MIS), and business analytics tools
  • Willing to travel extensively
